Until recently Google has not allowed graphics in the standard Adwords text ads placed beside searches and on publishers' adsense pages. But WebProNews reports that "favicons" are starting to show up in some of the big name advertisers' ads.
Favicons are little graphics used to suggest the look and feel of a site, and often include a representation of a company's logo. It seems inevitable that advertising will migrate in this direction. To some degree, pure text ads were a reaction to the garish banner advertising that was popular a few years ago. Now it seems we are moving gradually back to a more graphic look.
