Recent tests of Promo Blog have been very interesting and very positive in terms of the SE rankings these posts get.
Here are some examples:
1. The post called "Canadian Indie Rock Band set to sweep the world" ranked #4 in Google and #1 in MSN for keyword search "Canadian Indie Rock Band", just four days after posting.
2. The post called "Rare Business Opportunity at Free Card Business Card Displays" ranked #1 in Google and #1 in MSN for "Rare Business Opportunity", just four days after posting.
3. The post called "Top 10 Reasons to Use a Condom" was #2 in Google and #1 in MSN for "Reasons to Use a Condom".
Not all posts did this well. Some require a more selective use of keywords in the headline. For instance, "Hot Project - Project Management Software" is nowhere to be found for either "Project Management Software" or "Hot Project". I suspect it needs to say something like "Low Cost Project Management Software" or "High Quality Project Management Software".
And "Display Graphics in Canada" is only #5 in Google and #16 in MSN for "Canadian Display Graphics", but basically nowhere for "Display Graphics". This general category (virtually unknown three or four years ago) is now dominated by equipment suppliers, and companies specifically targeting the term. To get immediate impact, this headline should be sharpened to say things like "Low Cost Display Graphics", "Outdoor Display Graphics", etc.
One of the strengths of this kind of advertising is that new posts can be tweaked based on the results of previous posts. An advertiser may not be able to get immediate results on exactly the more general keyword he is after, but these early test suggest that getting immediate results for more narrowly defined keywords is relatively easy.
