There's an interesting post at Andrew Hansen's blog called "I Hate This Industry Sometimes" where he rips into the guru culture than now dominates internet marketing. It obviously hit a nerve because many many people have commented with most saying how much they agree.
My own take on the state of the IM niche is that it is doomed to lies and deception as long as there is no counter-weight to the affiliate system that drives it. The affiliate system makes everyone a snake oil salesman, willing to sell anything and unwilling to be critical about products as long as they make a buck.
The only way to inject any integrity into the IM business is to have a small number of "watchdogs" who are not affiliate marketers, prepared to comment critically on products, without fear of losing their (potential) livelihood.
Any ideas?
