Traditional media have become splintered and segmented. Newspapers are losing readers and advertisers. Direct mail has become ineffective because of technology changes. Advertising in local magazines is over-priced because of high production costs and vigorous competition from the web.
And most important, the Yellow Pages are no longer the dominant force they once were because fewer and fewer people actually use them for a whole variety of reasons.
As a result, local businesses have very few reliable places to turn to for effectively promoting their businesses.
Web marketing to the rescue.

Stumble it!
I don't disagree. What I meant is that local advertising has become splintered and is no longer able to deliver the whole market for a price that local businesses can afford.
